Mountain Storytelling at its Best
Award-winning illustrator and children's book writer Paul Brett Johnson interprets this 600-year-old Jack tale with an Eastern Kentucky twist. The boy-hero and his dog whack a swarm of yellow jackets, capture a wild boar, tangle with a grizzly bear, and trap a unicorn. Johnson's text is a delightful and accessible recreation of mountain speech, and his energetic paintings are richly detailed and laugh-out-loud funny....

Federal Antitrust Policy During the Kennedy-Johnson Years: (Contributions in American History)
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Press (June, 1995)
Author: James R. Williamson
Average review score:

A Timely Work
In this age of even greater economic concentration, it is important to look in to how our government's interpretation of antitrust laws has evolved over the years. This book takes a deep look into the third great merger movement which led to the birth of the conglomerate merger. Williamson gives a detailed summary of the events leading to the third merger movement, and also includes a brief explanation of the policy changes that occurred during the Nixon administration. This book highlights many of the legal precedents set by the Supreme Court which today seem to be ignored by the antitrust wing of justice department in recent administrations.

The most interesting chapter of the book deals with the Supreme Court's interpretation of section 7 under the leadership of Earl Warren. In every case out of the sixteen antitrust cases which reached the Supreme Court, the court ruled in favor of the justice department, concluding that ANY merger which substantially reduces competition violates section 7. Unfortunately, the court can only rule the cases brought before it, and the languid approach to antitrust in recent years has lead to a legal environment where the actions of multination conglomerates go unchecked.

having trouble finding things to eat ? Buy this book!
This is the first cookbook I've found that doesn't contain things I'm allergic to, I can use every recipe in the book! Great for people who have multiple allergies like gluten, corn, dairy, soy, etc.

The recipes are easy to follow, tasty and very healthy. They do, however, involve ingredients like stevia, arrowroot and amaranth flour which may not be easy to get in some places.

The Feynman Integral and Feynman's Operational Calculus (Oxford Mathematical Monographs)
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (May, 2002)
Authors: Gerald W. Johnson and Michel L. Lapidus
Average review score:

An Excellent Volume!
This volume by Johnson and Lapidus is an excellent guide to the Feynman integral and Feynman's operational calculus. The authors bring together a great deal of the background material needed for the study of the integral and operational calculus so as to make the volume mostly self-contained.

The book contains several different approaches to the Feynman integral and discusses in some detail relationships between these approaches. The exposition is very clear and detailed and the proofs of results in the text are detailed and extremely well written. Also, the text contains many items that have only appeared in the research literature. Some of these results are quite new.

Also contained in this text is a thorough discussion of Feynman's operational calculus, again from more than one point of view. Many of the results contained here have only appeared previously in the research literature and again some are quite recent. This part of the book is also very well and clearly written.

There are also many remarks and examples dealing with the applicability of the formalism to physical situations.

This is a great read for anyone wanting to further there knowledge about these subjects.

A Field Guide to Blueberries
Published in Paperback by North Star Press of St. Cloud, Inc. (June, 1992)
Author: Jim Johnson
Average review score:

His verse interweaves his own personal views of life
Cloquet, Minnesota native Jim Johnson wonderfully captures little observations of life's importance and beauty in his poetry showcased in A Field Guide To Blueberries. His verse interweaves his own personal views of life, people, and the "protection of the North Country" in a way that will resonate with readers of all backgrounds and geographical locations. Here is a poetry that is as universal and it is pleasing to the mind and imagination. In The Blueberry Bucket: A man picks blueberries all day. In the bucket/small green and withered sifting down,/too old and squashed against the sides,/ twigs leave spruce needles settled to the bottom/while the large ripe rise up to the top./So full of flesh, so ordinary--/a woman, at sunset/a blond woman leading a reindeer/across the horizon. You are that woman. I am that man./And this I give to you/is, if not the history of the world/at the end of the day, but/a bucketful of blueberries.

A Field of Sunflowers
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Author: Neil Johnson
Average review score:

A Field of Sunflowers
This book was a great book which showed the reader beautiful photographs of how to plant sunflowers. I would like to grow some sunflowers next year and make a sunflower house just like they did in the story. I especially liked the photo which showed the artists who came to paint the field of sunflowers, then toward the end of the story the farmer invited his friends and neighbors over to have a dinner party on the lawn under the oak tree next to the field of sunflowers. This was a beautiful book which certainly inspired the reader to become interested in sunflowers if he wasn't already.
